YLVA OGLAND: Speglad källa (Mirrored Spring), Snöfrid et les contre espaces

Källa (Spring), Speglad Källa (Mirrored Spring), Snöfrid et les contre espaces consist of two larger painting installations, each work made out of two larger canvases that both conceptually and in composition have a relation to Las Meninas by Velazquez. In one of the chapters of The Order of Things: An Archaeology of the Human Sciences, Foucault devotes a particular reading of Las Meninas, offering a self-reflexive meditation on the nature of representation that can offer representation as representation in its pure form. Ogland's two shows mirror each other at the same time as the individual shows reflect upon themselves presenting both the artistic process and the actual exhibitions as rituals, through which the work and the artist's body can be revealed. Instead of physical characters as in Velazquez' painting Ogland's works circle around some central features in her imagery, or image world, and in a poly-relation in between the different motives and works, and the actual physical paintings that constitute each piece. Källa (Spring), Snöfrid et les contre espaces, and Speglad Källa (Mirrored Spring), Snöfrid et les contre espaces as the two pieces are called have developed along with the production of a monograph on Oglandʼs ouvre, which feature particularly her home and studio in Stockholm, where many of her motives have been created, and transmuted in different forms and formats. The home or the studio serves as a kind of stage, a backdrop, unveiling this world of imagery relations in time and space. Along with each work comes also a children's tipi, a three-dimensional painting, and application, which opens the works and renders other entrances to them than the mere visual ones, offering and suggesting many different ways to present them and to literally tread the works.
